Arguably best known as France’s first emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte continues to be celebrated as a successful military ruler to this day. Still, just because his specialty was conflict doesn’t mean that he wasn’t highly talented in other areas. Here are some facts about Napoleon Bonaparte that prove just how smart he truly was.
The Mathematician
Napoleon’s interests were not restricted to the battlefield. He was also keen on studying mathematics. So much so, that he is believed to have come up with his own trigonometry theorem. The Napoleon theorem stipulates that whenever we make equilateral triangles on the sides of any triangle, each center will make another equilateral triangle.
Lost In Translation
While he may have become the most powerful ruler in France, you may be surprised to learn that French was not Napoleon’s mother tongue. He was actually born on the Meditteranean island of Corsica; making him a native Corsican speaker. What’s more, he learned Italian and also some English, proving to be a talented linguist.
Let’s Get Creative
In 1795, Napoleon showed his creative ability by writing a novella called Clisson et Eugénie. This book was a tragic love story about a French soldier named Clisson who fell in love with Eugénie. The plot was a saucy one, with Eugénie getting into an affair with one of Clisson’s friends as he was away at war.
