Pablo Picasso is considered one of the best-known artists and painters in history. He is credited for co-founding the Cubist movement in art while also making big contributions to the development of constructed sculpture and collage. Picasso also lived quite an exciting life, and the interesting facts below prove it.
Picasso Was a Terrible Student
Picasso’s artistic talent was unquestionable from an early age. However, he wasn’t particularly fond of school and admitted that he was a terrible student. He would often be sent to detention, something he looked forward to as it gave him an opportunity to work on his sketches.
Picasso Was Accused of Stealing Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”
When Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterpiece Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre Museum in 1911, the police identified Picasso as one of the suspects. On a previous occasion, Picasso bought some statues that were stolen from the Louvre by a thief, and the investigation of the Mona Lisa theft led the police to believe he was involved. After facing trial, Picasso was found innocent.
Picasso Was a Poet and Writer
Aside from being a prolific painter and sculptor, Picasso was also a poet and a writer. He wrote over 300 poems during his life and believed he might become more famous for his poetry than art. Picasso also wrote two theater plays.
Picasso Would Shoot “Boring” People with Blanks
Picasso was known for having a gun by his side wherever he would go. The gun had blanks instead of real bullets, and Picasso didn’t hesitate to “shoot” people that he deemed boring. He would do the same if someone insulted French impressionist Paul Cézanne, his favorite artist.
