With over 300 million copies sold, Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, and its movie adaptation is also breaking records. Fans of the popular video game flocked to the theaters to see A Minecraft Movie on the big screen, helping it break many box office records in the process.

Video Game Adaptation

A Minecraft Movie debuted with $163 million domestically and $313 million globally, to score the highest-grossing opening weekend for a movie based on a video game. It broke the record previously held by The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which still holds the record for the highest-grossing video game film adaptations.

Opening Weekend

In addition to setting the record for the biggest opening for a video game adaptation, A Minecraft Movie also scored the biggest domestic opening of 2025. It also marks Warner Bros’ third largest domestic opening of all time, behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Batman v. Superman.

Biggest Movie of 2025?

A Minecraft Movie is on a quest to become the highest-grossing film of 2025, and its sequel is already in the works. It surpassed Captain America: Brave New World to become the most profitable film at the 2025 domestic box office, while the global record is still held by the Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2.

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali and the iconic band The Beatles crossed paths several times at the height of their fame. However, not many people know that Ali actually tried to reform The Fab Four in the late 1970s and probably came closest to pulling off this “impossible” feat.

Despite becoming the most successful band in history, the Beatles members: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr—decided to part ways in 1970. Several factors played a role in the breakup, but the most important were the strained relationships between the four musicians and the death of their manager, Brian Epstein.

Shortly after The Beatles disbanded, all sorts of promoters tried to get Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starr back together. However, despite proposing enticing offers, some of which ranged upwards of $100 million, the former bandmates were determined to continue their separate ways. That is until Ali stepped in.

At the suggestion of inventor Alan Amron and businessman Joel Sacher, Ali decided to get involved in the duo’s efforts to reunite The Beatles in 1977. After all, he was the perfect person to try the unlikely feat, being among the most famous people in the world, a fan of the band, and already having a connection with the band members.

Ali, then named Cassius Clay, and The Beatles met for the first time in 1964 at Miami Beach, coming together for a photoshoot. Ali was preparing to fight Sonny Liston for the Heavyweight Champion title at the time while The Beatles were fresh from their famed appearance at The Ed Sullivan Show.

Amron and Sacher proposed the idea of The Beatles’ reunion as a charity event. Their goal was to collect $200 million that would be used for a charity fund. Ali was on board, and he soon reached out to representatives of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starr while also making his efforts public and creating a media frenzy.

While Ali didn’t get an immediate response, he managed to chat with Lennon, which made him quite optimistic. The two attended the inaugural gala for new U.S. President Jimmy Carter, and Ali made his pitch. Lennon didn’t accept on the spot, but he did invite Ali to meet him at New York City’s The Dakota, where he was staying with his wife Yoko Ono.

Ali was convinced that the Beatles reunion was close to happening that night, but unfortunately, things didn’t turn out that way. The representatives of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starr quickly got involved, which led to a series of behind-the-scenes meetings that eventually ended the entire plan. As a result, Ali and Lennon never got to have their meeting at The Dakota, and the Beatles never reunited.

“Jingle Bells” is one of the first songs people think of when someone mentions Christmas, and the holiday season would be incomplete without it. Written by James Lord Pierpont in 1850, this festive tune became one of the symbols of Christmas over the years, but did you know it wasn’t envisioned with this holiday in mind?

If the plaque in the center of Medford Square in Medford, Massachusetts is to be trusted, Pierpont wrote this iconic carol in 1850 at the Simpson Tavern. He didn’t copyright it until 1857 when it was originally given the name “The One Horse Open Sleigh”, reportedly drawing inspiration from the town’s popular sleigh races during the 19th century.

“Jingle Bells” went on to become one of the most performed and most recognizable Christmas songs ever written, but it originally had no connection with this holiday. Some reports claim that Pierpont wrote it for a Thanksgiving program at his father’s Sunday school, while others believe its lyrics weren’t appropriate enough to include it in the church program of the 1850s.

Countless versions of the song had been recorded over the years, starting with Will Lyle’s version on Edison cylinder from 1889, which has no surviving copies. The Edison Male Quartette recorded the first surviving vocal rendition in 1898, and they were followed by many other artists, from Frank Sinatra to Michael Bublé.

“Jingle Bells” made history again on December 16, 1965, when it became one of the first songs to broadcast from space. Astronauts Tom Stafford and Wally Schirra played it after making a joke about seeing an unidentified flying object piloted by Santa Claus.

The ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz are one of the most iconic pieces of movie memorabilia in history, and their new owner seems to agree. An unknown buyer agreed to pay $32.5 million for a pair of sparkling shoes worn by Judy Garland, making them the most expensive movie prop ever sold.

Garland wore several pairs of the iconic ruby shoes in The Wizard of Oz, but only four are known to have survived. The shoes put on auction by Heritage Auctions were once stolen from a museum that housed them but was eventually returned to the memorabilia collector Michael Shaw.

The stolen ruby slippers were expected to fetch around $3 million, and the bidding kicked off at $1.55 million, but the price quickly jumped through the roof after an intense bidding war. An unknown buyer eventually agreed to shell out $28 million for the iconic slippers, plus an additional $4.5 million in fees to the Dallas-based auction house.

According to Heritage Auctions, this makes the ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz the most expensive piece of movie memorably ever sold. The record had previously been held by the white dress that Marilyn Monroe wore while standing over the subway grate in The Seven Year Itch, which sold for $5.52 million in 2011.

Beetlejuice is Tim Burton’s latest classic to get a sequel, so it’s a better time than ever to reflect on its legacy. Here are five fun facts that will change the way you look at this classic horror comedy.

Alternative Titles

The name Beetlejuice became quite iconic following the film’s release, but Warner Bros. didn’t like it at first. They wanted to give it a more generic title House Ghosts, and Burton jokingly suggested Scared Sheetless as an alternative.

Not First Choice

It’s impossible to imagine anyone but Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, but Burton initially wanted his favorite childhood star Sammy Davis Jr. to play this character.

Keaton’s Improve

Keaton got completely immersed in the role of Beetlejuice once he was officially cast, improvising many of his lines and coming up with much of the character’s look himself.

Alternative Casting Choices

Beetlejuice isn’t the only character in this film that could’ve been played by a different actor. Anjelica Huston was originally cast as Delia Deetz before being replaced by Catherine O’Hara.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Brooke Shields, Lori Loughlin, Diane Lane, Molly Ringwald, Juliette Lewis, Jennifer Connelly, Alyssa Milano were some of the actresses considered for the role of Lydia Deetz before Winona Ryder was cast.

First Netflix DVD

Before Netflix became the world’s leading streaming service, it functioned as a mail-based rental DVD business, and Beetlejuice was actually the first of over 5.2 billion DVDs they ended up shipping.

Indiana Jones wouldn’t be who he is without his iconic fedora, which grew into a popular piece of film memorabilia over the years. Harrison Ford wore many different hats while playing our favorite archeologist, and the one from Temple of Doom recently sold for a whopping $630,000.

The fedora from the second film in the Indiana Jones franchise was one of the items up for auction hosted by film and TV memorabilia company Propstore. The sable-colored rabbit felt hat was expected to fetch between $250,000 and $500,000, but it exceeded everyone’s expectations when it sold for $630,000 after 37 bids.

The hat in question comes from the personal collection of Ford’s late stunt double Dean Ferrandini. It was created by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London and presents an updated version of the hat from Raiders Of The Lost Ark, with a more tapered crown.

This wasn’t the only piece of film memorabilia to haft a hefty price at Propstore’s recent auction. An imperial scout trooper helmet from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was bought for $315,000, a ghost costume from Scream attracted a winning bid of $270,900, while a light-up wand used by Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban sold for $53,550.

Based on Homer’s epic Illiad and following the events of the Trojan War, Wolfgang Petersen’s 2004 historical epic Troy is a movie that you either love or hate. Continue reading to find out some interesting facts about the movie that will either encourage you to rewatch it or make you check it out if you have never seen it.

Wolfgang Petersen Made the Movie Because He Missed Out on Gladiator

Director Wolfgang Petersen reportedly was offered to direct the Academy Award-winning movie Gladiator but turned it down. After seeing the success of Gladiator, which ended up being directed by Ridley Scott, Petersen jumped on the opportunity to direct Troy as a way to redeem himself.

Brad Pitt Tore His Achilles While Shooting the Movie

Brad Pitt, who played Greek hero Achilles in the movie, tore his Achilles tendon while shooting the movie. In Greek mythology, Achilles is invulnerable in all of his body except his heel. The Achilles tendon, a tendon that connects calf muscles with the heel, is named after him.

Producers Were Offered a Chance to Shoot the Film at the Site of the Real Troy

Troy was filmed at various locations in Malta and Mexico. However, producers were offered a chance to shoot the movie at the site of an ancient Greek city that is considered to have been the real Troy in Hisarlik, Turkey. Turkish government even offered to sponsor the movie but was unsuccessful in their bid.

Trojan Horse from the Movie Settled in a Fitting Location

The Trojan Horse replica used in the movie was used in the promotional campaign and was displayed at various locations around the world. However, it eventually made its way to Canakkale, a Turkish city located 20 miles from the site of the real Troy.

Pitt Disliked the Movie

The critics are not the only ones who didn’t like the movie. Pitt also shared his dislike for Troy in one interview, saying that he wasn’t satisfied with the way it turned out and revealing that he only did it because of a contractual obligation to the studio.
